Lifted ripe melon and white peach aromas with complex textural notes of cashew and burnt figs on the nose. Generous and fully flavoured with lashings of perfectly ripe mid-palate punch. The use of high solids gives a textural, creamy character to the wine. This flavour and intensity is integrated seamlessly with the fineboned French oak with a long and persistent finish.

Hand-picked fruit was whole bunch pressed to tank and then racked to oak wiht a high degree of solids. A combination of wild and inoculated fermentation held below 20°C. Malolactic ferment not encouraged with
approximately 30% proceeded naturally. 10 Months on lees in French oak Barriques (60% new). Lees were stirred weekly initially and reduced to monthly towards the end of maturation. Racked to final blend, light fining, stabilisation, filtration and bottling.

Pair w/ braised Quail, Apricots, Currants and Tamarind.

Limited and Exclusive. Will reward cellaring for 5-7 years. 1536 bottles made.

95 Points – “This is an impressive wine. Intense, powerful and compelling, with rich stone fruit characters complemented by complex winemaking inputs. The way this all comes together on the palate is quite brilliant. Whilst the rich winemaking notes stand out on the nose, there is a degree of restraint to the fruit, and the worked notes complement rather than dominate the flavours on the palate. The oak is fine and adds depth. Another year or two will really see this fill out, and five+ years in the cellar will do this no harm at all.” – Barry Weinman, Fine Wine Club

93 Points – “Lush, toasty and rich. A decadent chardonnay with hallmark power and presence. Graceful glide in texture with layers of spice, ripe fruit, judicious oak seasoning and general chardonnay lavishness. All of this fits together superbly. It’s not a classy wine, but it has pedigree and wears its heft well, finishing fresh, tight and spicy. Lots of perfume, lots of flavours, all so well done.” – Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion.

About Plantagenet Wines

Plantagenet’s vineyard estate has been carved out of the regions distinctive Marri Soils named after the massive native Marri, or Red Gum trees that grow here. The soils are ironstone gravelly sandy loams over a base of clay or ironstone rock. The vineyard block sites were selected where good water drainage allows control over vine vigour, one of the most important determinants of fruit quality.

Irrigation is used infrequently and only to supplement natural rainfall events forcing the vine roots deep into the subsoil and building natural resilience within the vine. The combination of soils, landforms and climate – or terroir – creates wines of rare distinction and quality.

High quality blocks from these vineyards are well known to the winemaking team and special care and attention is given throughout the growing season to those that historically make the “Wyjup Collection” and Plantagenet Estate wines.
