The nose shows lifted aromatics of dark berries, plum, blackcurrant, and black olive tapenade. A mineral and finely savoury palate, showing black fruits with a consistent and refreshing driving acid line that persists through the finish.

The fruit is handpicked and fermented using wild yeast and 20% whole bunches, a small amount of Viognier skins are also added. It is plunged twice a day and pressed off skins after 20 days. The subsequent wine is then trucked overnight to our winery in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. The wine is transferred to barrel and matured, predominately in seasoned oak for 10 months. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.

Each region is selected for having the optimum conditions to suit specific varieties, such as Pinot Gris from the Mornington Peninsula, Syrah from the Canberra District, Chardonnay from Tumbarumba and Shiraz from Heathcote. With a long history of trusted working relationships, Sam selects growers with the utmost care. Every aspect of the growing — from pruning, canopy management and harvesting — is overseen.

At harvest, the fruit is carefully hand – picked and transferred to our Polperro winery on the Mornington Peninsula to be vinified and matured. Here the same care and dedication is shown to these selected parcels of fruit as to the wines of the Polperro label. The resulting wines are true expressions of their region.

Polperro Winery is nestled among the vines and shaded by ancient Angophora trees on a stunning 25 acre property in the heart of Red Hill, Mornington Peninsula. Established in 2014, Polperro is a boutique winery that offers on-site vineyard dining, intimate cellar door and luxury accommodation.
