Colour : Dark red core with deep purple hues.

Nose : Rich and ripe blackberry and plum aromas are supported by cedar oak notes and subtle bay leaf spice.

Palate : Underpinning the medium bodied palate is bright and youthful blackberry fruit and traces of mulberry and spicy oak. Fine grained oak and fruit tannins provide structure and supports the wine while a supple mid-palate leads seamlessly to a persistent finish. Vineyard Located southwest of Great Western and north of Moyston, in the granite dotted hills, is the Hyde Park vineyard, a vineyard set on a large siltstone hill, which looks like shale or slate, and erupts out of the red ferrous earth. The grapes are taken from the top of the hill, where the red earth is higher in clay and stone and retains more moisture, and largely avoids the need for irrigation in all but the hottest periods.

Colin Preece, one of Australia’s masterful blenders

In 2017, PREECE wines made a proud return into the portfolio of iconic Victorian winery, Mitchelton. The reinvigorated range of wines pay tribute to highly decorated and founding winemaker of the late 1960s, Colin Preece.

Preece was known as one of Australia’s masterful blenders with an unorthodox approach to wine making. His legacy will continue with the new PREECE collection under the helm of Mitchelton winemaking and viticultural team.

Mitchelton’s Chief Winemaker, Andrew Santarossa is pushing the boundaries with a progressive approach to PREECE winemaking, whilst paying tribute to the blending and fruit forward style of the original wines.

“As a fitting tribute to Victoria’s most decorated winemaker, the PREECE winemaking philosophy pays respect to time honoured techniques, yet will continue to evolve via the culture of innovation and imagination that the creation of modern wine styles demand.” Travis Clydesdale, Chief Winemaker

On the 22nd of August, 1969 the first PREECE vines were planted at Mitchelton’s home base, on the verdant banks of the mighty Goulburn River in Nagambie, Central Victoria.

The 2016 vintage wines under the reinvigorated PREECE label, proudly sourced exceptional fruit from the estate, 47 years after those first plantings. The winemaking and viticulture team will be expanding the Victorian fruit sourcing in vintages to come, by creatively exploring some of the best patchwork of exciting sub regions, in search of highly expressive sites and the finest quality.

The PREECE collection of contemporary, single varietal wines are crafted with passion and dedication. The wines are fresh, vibrant, fruit driven wines with varietal and regional expression.
