About Ravensworth
In case you haven’t noticed, Bryan Martin works with loads of Italian varietals, for lots of different reasons… but mainly it feeds his culinary hobbies and vinous desires. Bryan loves to drink these wines and the chef in him is drawn to their easy application to a wide variety of dishes. The big reason though, is that he admires their suitability for the increasingly varied growing conditions in his part of Australia. It’s this reasoning that has led to Ravensworth now making over ten wines that are either straight varietals or blends of Italian grapes.
Today we release two of Bryan’s personal favourites from the Italian firmament – the Fiano Trebbiano and the Barbera Nebbiolo. Bryan has a particular affinity towards Fiano, it can handle the hot as well as the wet which is a real boon considering the weather in the last few years! And Barbera, of course, has been deeply rooted in the Ravensworth story for over six years now. It’s favoured for its bright fruit characters and cleansing acidities… then add in some Nebbiolo for tannic hold and some savoury depth, and well, it’s a done deal.
2022 was a cool year (as we all felt) that started quite wet but finished dry and warm, rather than hot. These moderate conditions allowed for long and easy ripening conditions, and plenty of flavour development. This is a cracking set of releases from the great man and is always a welcome treat at this time of year.
