“Yellow fruit profile here, with a slight matchstick, hazelnut and spice. It’s nutty and subtly saline, a light pear skin grip, and the texture here is really quite lovely with its chalky feel, the finish is savoury, yet cool, and quite long, with a discreet level of bitterness. Charming.”
– Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 2021

94 Points – The Real Review 2022
Tasting Notes: This wine has layered and bright aromas of citrus blossom, blanched almond with some subtle & fine oak with a maritime/sea-side essence to it. It is a textural wine with some grip from fine phenolics typical of this site. Flavours are of grapefruit and oatmeal which fill the palate and extend with some expressive brisk acidity giving great length and, as such, offers great cellar potential.

Vinification & Elevage: Fruit is whole bunch pressed with full juice solids to mix of French Oak barriques and puncheons (30% new) for fermentation. Wine is sulphured without any malolactic conversion or further lees stirring. 10 months on lees in oak.

Viticultural Notes: The fruit for this single vineyard Chardonnay is grown on our Isabella’s vineyard on Briarty Road vineyard in Gruyere.

Optimal conditions for both flowering and fruitset in the vineyards gave well balanced yields with plenty of promise leading into the 2019 harvest. A dry January and February followed, culminating in a relatively compressed vintage, though attention to detail in the vineyards gave winemakers wonderfully balanced fruit with concentration of flavour and exceptional natural acidity.

About Rochford Wines

Rochford Wines begins with owner and CEO Helmut Konecsny, who has always been the driving force behind this dynamic wine business since first purchasing the land in 2002. A family business at heart, Helmut’s passion for Yarra Valley wine, great food, service and entertainment has seen Rochford expand exponentially over the years.

After many years in the corporate world both in Australia and overseas, Helmut purchased a vineyard in Macedon Ranges where the concept for Rochford Wines first began. While still commuting to his corporate obligations and managing the vineyard, the opportunity to purchase ‘Eyton on the Yarra’ came to Helmut’s attention. With its old vine plantings, proximity to Melbourne and Highway frontage, the potential to develop the site into something truly special was immediately apparent. And so, Rochford Wines of the Yarra Valley was born.

Now producing award-winning wines, Rochford encompasses three vineyard sites, two restaurants, a weddings and functions venue and a huge 12,000 capacity outdoor concert amphitheater. The dreams Helmut had for Rochford Wines are being realized; A place that captivates the senses and provide memorable experiences for all who visit.
