The King River flows down from the heights of Victoria’s Alpine region and has done so for millennia, slowly building a fertile plain of mineral rich alluvial soils. These soils are the broken-down bones of Victoria’s famous high-country. Cool air follows the river down from the mountains, settling in the valley and slowing the ripening of the fruit on the vines that sit alongside the majestic river. This cool climate produces subtle but complex wines that are beautifully balanced and finely structured.

After pressing into stainless steel tanks, the juice was allowed to ferment slowly to preserve fruit character and freshness. The wine was chilled immediately when dry to prevent Malo-lactic fermentation and capture the lovely subtle characters of kiwifruit and white peach. A moderate amount of acidity provides a bracing backdrop and refreshing finish.

“Another very tasty release from Jason Searle and Bill Downie, aka Save Our Souls. Fermented in stainless and with zero mlf, this salivating summer white has citrus and stone fruit notes along with a soupçon of lemongrass. Gently textured and refreshing, my guess is, that on a warm day, the bottle will be gone before you know it.” 92 Points Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion Nov 2023.

About Save Our Souls

Many years ago, we met in the vine rows of world-renowned Pinot Noir producer; Bass Phillip. Spending time amongst the grapes we learned that we held common ideals for quality wine, hard work and a good laugh. Over lunches and wine tasting a bond grew and in 2008 Save Our Souls was born.

Our first release was at the time a ground-breaking savoury and crisp Rosé for those long hot Australian summers, still the OG. Over the next 10 years or so our little family has grown and expanded to include a savoury and textured Chardonnay, an affordable Pinot Noir that well tastes like Pinot Noir, an easy drinking Sangiovese which tastes great with or without food, a lively and juicy Sagrantino for a bit of fun. You can find plenty more of the family over on the Our Wines page of the website.

We don’t want accolades or shining medals, we just wanted to make delicious wines that punch above their weight, are inclusive and most importantly are sociable; to be shared with friends at a favourite bar top, to have at home with hump day dinner, take with confidence to a dinner party or in the park with the gang on a sunny Sunday – wines for every day in every way.

We are extremely lucky and blessed to work with wonderful grape growers from all over Victoria who share our passion for interesting wines that speak of the place they come from. Whether it be from way down south in Mornington Peninsula, through to the Yarra Valley and all the way up to the famous Heathcote region. We make wine with as little added as possible except for good honest grapes.

We will continue to be adventurous, to keep evolving and most of all have a bit of fun –

SOS; not trying to change the world, just a couple of souls, one glass at a time.
