Founded in 1987, Sherwood Estate Wines has been crafting exceptional wines in Waipara, New Zealand, for over 30 years. With a focus on producing wines that can be enjoyed on any occasion, from casual gatherings with friends to refined celebrations, the family-run business is committed to delivering both quality and value.
The story of Sherwood Estate is one of perseverance and passion. Established by Jill and Dayne Sherwood during a challenging period for New Zealand’s wine industry, the couple planted their first 20 acres of vines at a time when many wineries were closing due to oversupply and declining demand. Their resilience, paired with a true passion for winemaking, laid the foundation for one of New Zealand’s largest independent wineries today.
Sherwood Estate’s “can-do” Kiwi attitude has driven its success, with the family personally overseeing every aspect of the business—from nurturing the vineyards to winemaking and cultivating lasting relationships with customers and suppliers. This hands-on approach ensures that each bottle meets the high standards that Sherwood Estate is known for.
The land is central to Sherwood Estate’s winemaking philosophy. Conscious of their responsibility to future generations, the Sherwood family was one of the pioneers of sustainable winemaking in the Waipara Valley. They were among the first to have all of their vineyards and winery accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ), reflecting their commitment to environmental stewardship.
