96 Points – Halliday Wine Companion Exclusively in magnum. From 25yo vines northern Barossa. Matured in seasoned American oak barrels. True to name, the mighty northern Barossa comes alive with depth and impact. Yet, crucially, this boasts the lift, detail and precision that set the modern St Hallett apart. Full, vibrant purple, it brims with crunchy blackberries, black cherries and satsuma plums, laced with exotic spice. Refreshing acidity and enduring fine-grained tannins complete a long finish. 96 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review (1500ml) Very dark, saturated purple/red/black colour, with a similarly concentrated aroma of tar, blackberry, herbs, machine-oil and graphite, with a generous component of smoky char oak. The wine is very full-bodied and dense, concentrated, chewy textured and long, with masses of supple tannins. This is a whopper, with a huge future ahead of it. 10 OCT 2020.

A nod to the traditional, full-bodied Barossa Valley shiraz style, this has a rich array of blackberry, blackcurrant, earth, lead-pencil and beef-stock aromas with a strong, tarry thread, too. The palate has such a bold, full-bodied style that is saturated with blackberries and really intense, bold tannins. Big, delicious and balanced. Northwestern Barossa sourcing here. Magnums only, this is custom made for collectors and cellaring. Try from 2026.
‘Sourced from the rich deep clay soils of Northern Barossa, in the parishes of Ebenezer, Greenock and Moppa Hills. A wine that represents the unique history of Barossa Shiraz, strong, bold and muscular, much like the great oxen used to plough the ancient Australian soils’, Helen McCarthy, Chief Winemaker.
Bright and intense crimson colour. A complex and powerful nose, full of rich dark berries, black forest cake and vanilla with subtle licorice root and spice characters.
Full bodied, luscious and powerful on the palate. Excellent fruit intensity, enhanced by the American oak with strong characters of blackberry and black cherry.
Prominent oak characters of vanilla and dark chocolate seamlessly appear with delightful and evident acidity and tannin. There is an outstanding persistence long after the wine leaves the mouth.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS July and August saw good rainfall that preceded a warm and dry spring. The dryness carried through the growing season, with very few rain events from mid-November. Overall a dry growing season, with a warm spring, occasionally hot summer and a perfect autumn, producing densely flavoured wines.
WINEMAKER NOTES All vineyards are harvested separately and treated as individually parcels in the winery. The various parcels spend around 8-12 days on skins with ferments ranging in temperature from 20-30°C. After fermentation the wine is gently pressed directly in to barrel, with each parcel remaining separate, for 12-18 months maturation
