Each year I source and select grapes from a different single vineyard in the Heathcote region, therefore each year the wine will have a different name to reflect the vintage. 14th release. Named after our first-born son Hugo born in August 2017. 2017 being a cool year, I decided to release the 2017 after the 2018 to give it more time to come together in bottle and the result is very satisfying.

‘Hugo’ comes from Carl Brown’s vineyard. I started working with Carl back in 2015. I was struck by his obsession with soil health and the care and management he puts into the vineyard. The attraction amplified once I learnt it was the only certified organic vineyard in Heathcote.

I particularly love duck or lamb with this wine. The natural acidity and savouriness from the whole bunch compliments the sweet animal fat. Think a whole slow roasted duck with wild mushrooms or a lamb rack with garlic, herbs, and anchovies. Yum!!

About Syrahmi Wines

The name Syrahmi is a made up from “Syrah” the French word for Shiraz and “Ami” meaning friend. The idea being a “friendly Shiraz” or “A friend of Shiraz”. Syrahmi began in 2004 when Adam Foster gave up his day job as a Chef to pursue his dream of becoming a wine maker. He purchased his first tonne and a half of grapes from Heathcote winery and the dream was born.

Each year grapes for Syrahmi are sourced and selected from different vineyards in the Heathcote region. Thus each year the wines are given a different name to reflect the vintage.

Currently under the Syrahmi label, Foster makes Shiraz, Grenache & Mouvedre.
