About Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte Wines
Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte is the fruit of Sandro and Filippo Chia’s desire to share their knowledge of viticulture in Maremma, giving life to wines that are closely bound to their territory of origin.
Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte stands on a hill that rises above the Maremma in the territory of Grosseto. The vineyards in the southernmost part of Scansano, about twenty kilometers from the Tyrrhenian coast, cover around 20 hectares.
A solitary and towering hillock with a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, it is no coincidence that the Etruscans chose this important crossroads between the coast and the hinterland, between Tuscany and Lazio, to build the fortified city of Ghiaccio Forte that inspired the winery’s name.
Following years of experimentation and rigorous selection in the vineyard, Tenuta GhiaccioForte has identified and refined varietal purity, embodied by two iconic labels that stand out for their elegance and expressiveness: Ghiaccio Forte, Morellino Scansano Docg, made from 100% Sangiovese, and Ripaforte, Toscana Igt, made exclusively from Petit Verdot.
The wines produced by Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte are the result of uncompromising choices based on rigorous agronomic experiments. This story of enological excellence is aimed at enhancing the most suitable grape varieties for the region.
At the turn of the new millennium, Sandro Chia and his son Filippo planted Sangiovese and international varieties in Maremma, bringing decades of experience gained in Montalcino.
