2019 Fidèle ‘Soleilla’ Maury Sec AOC
94 pts – Intense & powerful wine, though it manages to stay pretty light on its feet. Dark berries, scrub herb & lavender perfume, meaty & slightly malty. Plenty of flavour, distinct regional herb mouth-perfume, dark raspberries & a ‘mineral’ feel, especially pleasant crushed stone tannin, bitter almond & a long clean finish packed with tannin & bucolic fragrance. Excellent wine. Personality plus.

92 pts -Medium to deep ruby-red hue. Dark cherry, boudin noir & garrigue aromatics. The palate sits quite deep & rich, jammy fruits nestle amongst dried herbs & lavender complexities. A stony line of tannins tightens & focuses the very long finish. It handles the high alcohol remarkably well.

Born in the wilds of Roussillon. The Soleilla vineyard is perched high in the dramatic hills & terraces above the Vallée d’Agly with a unique character of its own. The famed black schist is interspersed with pockets of limestone from the higher slopes, combining the richness & power that is typical of Maury with a fresher, more finely defined character.

Crafted by Fergal Tynan MW, Fidèle is a blend of 80% old vine Grenache from the very low yielding hillside Soleilla vineyard & 20% century old Carignan from the summit of the plateau. As Fegal states, “it is these people & places that inspire our winemaking. It is our duty to create wines that allows the fruit to express the spirit of the place – ‘L’esprit de lieu’. “
