“Deep crimson in the glass with super-spicy damson plum, boysenberry and blueberry fruits with underlying hints of gingerbread, pressed purple flowers, citrus blossom, sarsaparilla, cola, Turkish delight, rose petals and earth. A plush and immensely floral grenache that gives off a Cherry Ripe vibe with tight tannin and bright acidity. It’s quite delicious.”

James Halliday Wine Companion 2024, Dave Brooks

Single vineyard Grenache in the southern Barossa Valley sub region of Lyndoch. Traditional vinification in small batches including barrel fermentation and wild yeast. Hand-picked fruit is gently destemmed directly into open fermenters and hogsheads with the tops knocked out with 20% whole bunch inclusion. We avoid unnecessary movement through mechanical pumps, preferring to punch down manually before transferring by gravity into the basket press. This traditional method facilitates a slow and gentle extraction of colour and tannins.

The wine is then aged in French oak puncheons with some lees stirring, before a final rack from barrel to tank for settling prior to bottling. We do not fine or filter our wines to maintain their natural flavours and aromas.richness balanced by elegance of the Southern pocket and beautifully expressed in every glass. Elevate your wine journey with this extraordinary blend, crafted to captivate and delight even the most discerning palate.

About Windan Wines

For thousands of years, Australia’s First Nation would entrust a family elder of generation with the guardianship of ‘special stones’. These stones were believed to contain the sacred stories, tribal secrets and history of their ancestors. A great honour was bestowed upon each custodian, to nurture and share this traditional knowledge with the next generation through story.

Our family have been ‘keepers’ of a rich history in grapegrowing & winemaking for over 7 generations, dating back to 1843 when Prussian ancestor Johann George Mattner first pioneered land on the banks of Jacobs Creek in the Hundred of Barossa. Grandfather entrusted myself to carry forward this legacy, that become apparent when I inherited an old storage box with a note attached ‘ wine papers for Scott ’.

It contained a collection of family history books, handwritten notes (many wine stained..) and winemaking journals dating back to early last century. Inspired by this collection of generational knowledge, we crafted these wines to honour tradition and carry forward our family legacy.
