Appearance: Intense ruby with a scarlet edge
Nose: White blossoms, lifted spices and red confected fruits.
Palate: Medium weight, bright and zippy acid, supple tannins and primary fruit for days.

Winemaking: 35% Grenache with a 6 day cold soak followed by 10 days of gentle extraction of skins. 33% Shiraz with 7 days of working the skins for maximum colour and structure. 32% Mourvèdre 13 days of gentle hand plunging skins.

Maturation: Mourvedre saw 11 months in aged oak. Shiraz saw 4:1 ratio of American to Hungarian oak. Grenache kept as fresh as possible in stainless steel.

Vineyard: Grown on estate from our Langhorne Creek Vineyard which is situated off the heavy alluvial soils of the flood plains, on shallower terrra rossa soil, ideal for precision control over water use on the vines and known to provide more structural wines.

Sam Watkins, Winemaking Director

Sam is a winemaker with 15 years’ experience in 6 regions (Napa Valley USA, Porto Portugal, Orange NSW, and Coonawarra, Barossa, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills, SA) across both hemispheres. Sam regularly features as a judge in national wine shows and industry publications and is Chair of the Langhorne Creek Winemaking Committee. His winemaking focuses on unlocking the optimal expression of variety from the cooler climate premium fruit produced on the Watkins vineyards in Langhorne Creek and Adelaide Hills. Sam and Emma have two Scottish Terriers, Archie and Pippa.
