The Obere Roterd is a sub-vineyard on the Spitzerberg with a total surface of three hectares. It is situated on the western part of the slope, and stretches like a tiny strip on an altitude between 210 and 240 meters, bordering the bushes of the natural reserve.

The soil is sandy, very dry limestone, including also bigger and smaller pieces of limestones.

The wines of Obere Roterd are – like nearly all wines from Spitzerberg – marked by elegant freshness and a very dense structure. Typical and unique for this sub-vineyard is a creamy, silky texture, which deliver it special character of charme to the wines.

We cultivate five vineyard parcels of Blaufränkisch on the Obere Roterd with a total surface of 1,3 hectares (and another 0,5 hecatres of Syrah). The vines were planted between 1965 and 2004, which guarantees a wonderful vertical complexity to the wine.

The difference between the Obere Roterd and the neighboring Untere (Lower) Roterd is impressive. The Untere Roterd has , probably due to erosion an higher content of loamy soils, which makes the wines more fruity and earlier approachable. The grapes of the Untere Roterd are used for the village wine Prellenkirchen Samt&Seide.

About Weingut Dorli Murh

Weingut Dorli Murh, is named after the eponymous female owner/winemaker, the champion of Austrian red grape Blaufrankisch.

Previously a partnership with Dirk Niepoort known as Muhr-Van Der Niepoort, Dorli has been the sole owner since 2017, extending the vineyard area plot by plot, and achieving organic certification.

She is based in the winegrowing region of Carnuntum, southeast of Vienna, near the Hungarian border, the most recent Austrian wine region to earn DAC accreditation. Her most renowned vineyard on the Spitzerberg has also achieved Erste Lage (First Growth) status in Austria’s Klassifikation 2019.

Dorli makes wonderful, crunchy, pure Blaufränkisch from various sites in the stunning, limestone-rich hills of Carnuntum, as well as some complex Gruner Veltliner.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
