All batches are kept separate during winemaking to maximise blending options and the complexity of the final wines. The wines go through secondary fermentation in bottles and are aged on yeast lees for as long as possible – the average tirage of the final blend is two years.

Pale gold. Great clarity.

The lifted nose displays honeysuckle and citrus notes. The tirage age contributes aromas of nougat and roasted nuts, while the Pinot Noir fruit shows delicate strawberry.

The palate is well balanced with delicate fruit flavours, creaminess from the fine bead mousse and fresh acid. The wine finishes dry and light, with lingering flavours of citrus and nougat.

West Cape Howe was founded in 1997, quickly becoming one of Western Australia’s favourite wine brands. Owned by four Western Australian families, Gavin Berry has been Managing Partner & Senior Winemaker since 2004 and he now has had over 30 vintages in the Great Southern.

West Cape Howe is a family owned winery located in Mount Barker, Western Australia. Rated 5 Red Star Winery by James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2013. Premium quality wines with a focus on ‘good food wines’. Making wines that people love to drink.

The winery is now at the picturesque ‘Langton’ vineyard, in the heart of the Mt Barker wine district. Over time, the partnership has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in the state, giving it unequalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern wine region has to offer.

West Cape Howe has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in the state, giving it unequalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern region has to offer. The five sub-regions range from inland continental conditions – ideal for fine Riesling and cool Shiraz; to coastal maritime conditions – ideal for elegant Chardonnay and classy Cabernet.

West Cape Howe Wines

The Langton Vineyard in Mount Barker, where the winery is based, consistently produces the highest quality fruit resulting in award winning wines with balance, structure and flavour. Established in 1978, the Langton Vineyard has some of the most mature vines in the Great Southern. Premium wine can only come from excellent fruit and it is for this reason our winemakers dedicate many months leading up to vintage, visiting and monitoring vineyards throughout the Great Southern wine region - ensuring that only the best parcels of fruit are selected and picked for the West Cape Howe range of wines.

Premium fruit is also sourced from Frankland River, Porongurup and the Perth Hills. Our Sustainability Practices As our climate changes, an important part of our viticulture and winemaking is to look at each stage and see how we can incorporate sustainable practices so that we can continue making wine well into the future. Many organic principles are incorporated into our vineyard systems. All nutrition requirements are based upon stringent soil analysis, and a spring application of mineral based fertiliser that is microbially seeded is spread as required.

During the warm summer months liquid kelp is used as a conditioner to maintain leaf health so important during the final ripening phase.
