The hero variety of the region, Woodstock Shiraz is sourced from Woodstock Estate and neighbouring vineyards in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. These vines are all on sandy soils which contribute the floral aromatics to Woodstock Shiraz. The ratio between bunches and leaves are closely monitored to ensure vineyard balance, so that each vine can deliver full, ripe flavours to every bunch.

Winemaking
An even dryer growing season than the previous vintage produced another below average yield but with luscious ripe fruit character and tannin/flavour intensity seen all round. ‘Deep Sands’ Shiraz fruit was fermented on skins for a minimum of 5 days, with the fermenting must being pumped over twice daily. Post ferment, the wine was pressed off of skins to be matured in stainless steel tanks, with a minority aged in 2nd and 3rd use oak for up to 12 months.

The Wine
When tasting this Shiraz, generosity of colour and flavour are clear and evident. The vibrant, floral and spicy bouquet brings together both red and black fruits like cherries and plums. The classic McLaren Vale earthiness comes through on the palate, supported by white pepper spice that balances the fruit concentration and the soft yet structured tannins. While young this Shiraz is bright and elegant. With time in the bottle (5—10 years) this wine will soften and develop interesting tertiary characters such as cigar box and leather.

Serving Suggestion
Char-grilled lamb served with red wine jus and wilted baby spinach or a selection of cured meats and smoked cheddar.

About Woodstock Wines

Woodstock Estate, established in 1905 by the Townsend family, has a rich legacy tied to its English roots. Named after the town of Woodstock near Blenheim Palace, the estate was first developed as a vineyard and orchard by the Townsend family, who built a homestead and cultivated the land until 1973. The Collett family then took ownership, expanding Woodstock with an adjoining vineyard acquired from Murray and Duclie Vick, caretakers of ancient Shiraz and Grenache vines dating back to the 1860s.

Today, Woodstock boasts some of the oldest vineyards in McLaren Vale, with the oldest vines planted in 1905. The Colletts have continued to enhance the estate, adding varietals such as Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Montepulciano, and Fiano. The estate’s vineyards are now certified sustainable, with many grapes dry-grown to suit the Mediterranean climate.

Woodstock’s winemaking process is meticulous, with optimal harvesting times chosen to preserve grape quality. Night harvesting, Italian crushers, and cold soaking for reds ensure wines of balanced intensity. Each stage, from immediate crushing to gentle fermentation, reflects Woodstock’s commitment to producing wines that honor the estate’s heritage and terroir.
