Picked early and barrel fermented. It’s a lean wine with impact. It smells and tastes of blackcurrant bud and gravel, citrus and lemongrass, and while it starts in ultra reserved mode it builds and expands as it travels through the palate. It’s a decent drink now but arguably it needs some extra time in bottle. If you’re prepared to put in that time this is very good value. 90+ points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front Jan 2024

This is a really gentle, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc from Tim Shand and the team at Punt Road in the Yarra Valley. It has hints of passionfruit and baby peas. It’s a lot more succulent than a lot of savvy out there, and the fruit finishes with a savoury and slightly phenolic line.

2023 was a cool vintage that produced exceptional wines across all varieties. Despite the delayed harvest caused by the cooler growing season, we were fortunate to have a mild summer with just a few hot days that allowed our fruit to mature gradually. Consequently, our wines boast complex and elegant flavours, fine tannins, and beautiful natural acidity. Our vineyards success this year is a testament to the hard work and dedication we put into caring for it.

Made from a small block of Sauvignon Blanc from our estate vineyard, the fruit was picked early to retain natural acidity and capture the vibrant fruit profile, characteristic of cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc. The juice was pressed to old puncheons on solids and allowed to ferment naturally with wild yeast. The wine remained in oak for three months, stirred month. Racked out in mid-June and bottled in late June 2023. Grown on grey loam clay base on a South Easterly aspect. Indigenous yeast with old French puncheons. 100% whole bunch. – Jarrod Johnson, Airlie Bank

About Punt Road Wines, Yarra Valley

Everything we do comes from our home in Coldstream…ideas are born here, the grapes are grown here, and our wines are crafted and shared here. As a family owned vineyard and winery, we aim to create wines that reflect the heritage of our site, and the independent, creative energy of the Yarra Valley. Winemaker Tim Shand guides the path of fruit from more than 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards.

Our Range….
Winemaker Tim Shand selects fruit from over 150 acres of estate-grown vineyards on our 300 acre farm. We’ve planted several varieties over the past 27 years to best suit this site including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties shine in different ways across these two distinctive expressions.

Our Philosophy…
“We only produce wines from our own vineyard in Coldstream, a deliberate, and to us, significant decision. It gives us the opportunity to put all our focus on our one patch of dirt and provides us with a greater understanding of our site along with 13 vintages of cellar memory to draw on.”  Tim Shand, Head Winemaker

Winemaking Technique…
Using minimalist intervention winemaking techniques allows us to deliver wines of outstanding quality, highlighting season variations.

The wines we sell are the wines we enjoy, and the people who make them are like family to us. They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
