Raspberry, blackcurrant, violet perfume, a little leaf and tobacco. Medium-bodied, a distinct ‘mineral’ feel, tannin is fine but sure, and the whole thing is a delight to drink, with a bit of slate-y stuff on the longish finish.

It was with the Rouillères that all began, the cuvée of Saint-Nicolas par excellence, light, fruity and all in finesse. This wine concentrates all that our particular terroir offers, freshness, pleasure … A wine that wants to be simple and pure.

About Domaine Frederic Mabileau Wines

Among the Mabileau, the vine’s culture dates back more than four generations. Some archives from the end of the 19th century testify of the family’s winemaking activity. Frédéric and Nathalie’s adventure began in 1991. Together, they launched their own vineyard independently of the property of Frédéric’s parents, Odette and Jean-Paul. Frédéric rents three hectares of vines belonging to Nathalie’s parents. The plot is called Les Rouillères. He plants his first Cabernet Franc, which will take root on a sandy-gravelly terroir. The vineyard expanded in 1996 from three to nine hectares, then in 2003 with the retirement of Jean-Paul. He leaves his fifteen hectares of vines in the hands of his son. Also, the oldest vines of the vineyard date from 1947 and testify to the activity of Frédéric’s grandfather.

On 25 hectares, our vines are rooted in a diversity of terroirs gathering together four appellations: Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Bourgueil, Saumur and Anjou. With its wide terraces of ancient alluvium, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil impose the Cabernet Franc. True master of the place, he dresses the village on the 1100 hectares of the vineyard. Our plot located in Bourgueil offers us a terroir richer in clay and gravel. Exclusively dedicated to the production of a single cuvée, this small piece of land reflects the expression of an old massal selection of Cabernet Franc. Because we wanted to handle Chenin for a long time, we went to look for plots in Anjou and Saumurois to make two cuvées of white wine.

At the Domaine Frédéric Mabileau, we are committed to developing a culture that listens to nature. Our work of the land is biological and biodynamic. It is not an end in itself, but a way to make the terroir speak in all authenticity. It is an approach to the living that follows the rhythms of nature. A way probably more accurate to approach it because more respectful of life.
