The Watervale sub-region of Clare is renowned for its Riesling, and this 1970s – planted single vineyard was selected for the exceptional fruit that it bears. The soil profile is classically Clare; terra rossa red loam over limestone, with interspersed patches of slate.

The fruit was harvested in the cool of night and delivered to the winery at dawn where it was de-stemmed and gently pressed. The ferment was cool and controlled with minimal intervention to maintain the delicacy and purity that is representative of this unique site.

About Miss Zilm Wines

Keeda Zilm grew up in Kingston, 250km south-east of Adelaide and whilst winemaking wasn’t her first consideration, she always had a passion for agriculture which ultimately led to her foray into the industry. Whilst undertaking her Oenology degree at The University of Adelaide, Keeda began working at O’Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley and it was from here that her relationship with the region began. In October 2018, after an incredible 16 years at O’Leary Walker, Keeda took charge of the winemaking at Vickery Wines and began working alongside industry icon and renowned “old master of Australian Riesling” John Vickery.

After spending nearly two decades winemaking in the Clare Valley, which Keeda affectionately refers to as her “winemaking home”, she finally took the plunge and established her own label. Keeda’s ethos is simple; Miss Zilm wines are about purity and place. Boutique in size and nature, she is dedicated to capturing the essence of the Clare Valley and its sub-regions, crafting wines that are “true to site” and celebrate the hard work of her dedicated growers. The focus is on what the region does best whilst embracing minimal intervention viticulture and implementing organic, sustainable winemaking practices.

The Usual Suspects

There are consistent elements to all fine wine, no matter where it is made. Whether it be Burgundy, Piedmont or the Adelaide Hills, the stories always surround people, places, and time.

It is only in very specific places where the combination of climate & soil produces something special. The sandy soils of Blewitt Springs to Coonawarra’s Terra Rossa strip, there is no substitute for where you grow, and even the slightest change to soil profile or elevation makes a world of difference.

Experience, friendship, collaboration. The endless pursuit of winemaking perfection is a people business like no other. The coming together of like-minded individuals, each bringing a wealth of history, knowledge, personality and passion, culminates in a unique and eclectic offering.
