Deep red and youthful appearance. Dark fruited aromas of blackberry, mulberry, dark cherry, spice, licorice and graphite. Rich, firm and focused on the palate; there’s a plush drive of dark fruits, a lick of blueberry, quality oak and sweet spice. Textured, grainy tannins and lively acidity round the palate out very nicely and bring savouriness and mouth-feel. Drink 2023–2033 93/100
Aaron Brasher – The Real Wine Review, March 2023

Reflecting the mild growing season, the 2022 Shiraz leaps out of the glass with vibrant black and blue fruits, sweet baking spices and subtle floral notes. A wine to relish in its vibrant and elegant youth or to cellar and watch the savoury elements evolve and mature.

From the tiny yielding 2022 vintage, the inclusion of 25% whole bunches, 3% Viognier and wild yeast fermentation bring floral notes and bright crunchy stem and black spice complexity to the nose and palate. 18 months maturation in 2 to 5 year old French oak provides a fine savoury edge in harmony with the vibrant and concentrated red and blue fruit notes from the vineyard. Enjoy now to 10+ years. John Harris – Winemaker

About Mitchell Harris Wines

Based in our home town of Ballarat, and surrounded by the great wine regions of Western and central Victoria, winemaker John Harris, works closely with growers in the Pyrenees, Macedon, and Ballarat wine regions to craft wines that display distinctive varietal expression and reflect individual vineyard, vintage and regional character.

Whilst studying immunology and microbiology at Monash University John fell in love with wine. 15 years later, having completed the Wine Science degree and working in wine retail as well as boutique and multi-national wine businesses here and abroad, John moved back to his home town of Ballarat in Western Victoria to team up with his wine loving in-laws the Mitchells, to create Mitchell Harris Wines.

From the classic Western Victorian pepper and spice in our Pyrenees reds to the cool climate focus and finesse of our Sabre sparkling, our wines give you a real glimpse into what makes the central and western Victorian wine growing regions so special.

Nestled in the hills just outside of Moonambel and at the end of the narrow, dusty and bumpy Wild Dog Track, is the Peerick Vineyard. The first Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz vines were planted in the 1990s. Planted on undulating slopes to maximise the abundant sunlight and to allow cool air movement from the surrounding hills, the shallow, rocky, and quartz laden soils provide an ideal site to ripen all varieties planted.
