The 2024 has beautiful red cherries with a hint of wild herbs. On the palate it’s a mouthful of juicy red cherry and warm, sun-ripened strawberry fruit. It displays the Spanish varieties hallmark tangy acidity and chalklike tannins, giving it a beguiling, elegant, dry finish.

The 2024 vintage was warm and dry. Perfect ripening and a naturally small crop gave very fresh and fragrant reds with good levels of natural acidity and moderate alcohol. A perfect vintage for Tempranillo where harvest was carried out at optimum ripeness and excellent berry condition.

Angus Hughson – Wine Pilot. 95 points. “Well if you are looking for a proper Rose for this Spring and Summer then look no further than this super, bone dry style which you can enjoy by the gallon. Pale onion skin pink but not pale in style as it delivers elegant yet piercing aromas of warm watermelon and cranberry with powdery dusted spice complexity – fennel seed with touches of paprika. The best part is the palate with excellent volume of flavour which it holds and holds and holds with subtle complexity over an extended finish with a little twist of tannins adding depth. Most Bandol Rosé wishes it was this good.”

WINEMAKING:
Harvested in the cool of the night to retain maximum fruit aroma and flavour the Tempranillo was pressed immediately for a pale rose colour. Fermented in tank at cool temperatures and bottled soon after harvest to retain freshness and bright berry fruits. The wine is bottled in light weight glass bottles to reduce its carbon footprint.

CELLARING AND SERVING:
The Tempranillo Rose is made and released for immediate enjoyment. It is the ultimate lunch wine and is a fantastic match for a wide variety of foods or can just be just enjoyed

About Oates End, Margaret River

Oates Ends is a boutique winery founded by winemaker Cath Oates, who crafted the first wine in 2000 from grapes left behind by machine harvesters, lending the name “Oates Ends.” After an extensive international winemaking career, Cath returned to focus on producing wines that capture the unique essence of the Wilagri vineyard in Margaret River. Her approach prioritizes minimal intervention, emphasizing the vineyard’s natural perfume and elegance by harvesting early to retain acidity and using oak sparingly.

Her brother, Russ Oates, manages the Wilagri vineyard, drawing on years of experience in vineyard management. Wilagri, planted in 1999, produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Semillon, and Sauvignon Blanc on rich loam soils. Sustainable practices are central to their approach, including hand-harvesting, using sheep for weed control and leaf plucking, and avoiding herbicides to enhance grape health naturally. The vineyard’s sustainability efforts are backed by its membership with Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA), aiming for full accreditation.

Family-owned since 1966, Oates Ends combines traditional farming values with a commitment to environmental stewardship, aiming to leave the land better for future generations. Their wines reflect both a respect for nature and a dedication to crafting elegant, finely structured wines.
