About Picardy Wines
Picardy, a premium boutique winery in Pemberton, Western Australia, was founded in 1993 by Bill, Sandra, and Dan Pannell. Bill and Sandra, pioneers in the Margaret River wine region, established Moss Wood winery in 1969, which contributed significantly to the area’s reputation as a key wine-producing region. At Picardy, they continue this tradition of excellence in winemaking. The vineyard sits on a north-facing slope at 200 meters altitude, 35 kilometers from the Southern Ocean, chosen by Bill for its well-drained loam and gravel soils ideal for cool climate varieties, especially Pinot Noir.
The winery produces a range of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, all sourced exclusively from its single vineyard property. Picardy’s location in Pemberton offers high altitude, rich gravelly soils, and ocean proximity, providing the cool conditions essential for high-quality wines. Dan Pannell, with a Bachelor of Science in Oenology from The University of Adelaide, brings a contemporary edge to the family legacy.
Picardy emphasizes sustainable vineyard practices, with all fruit estate-grown, unirrigated, cane-pruned, and handpicked. This commitment to sustainability and terroir-focused winemaking underlines Picardy’s dedication to producing premium cool-climate wines that honor the Pannell family’s pioneering heritage and contribute to Western Australia’s esteemed wine industry.
