Compared to the Trocken, this release is drawn exclusively from a selection of the coolest and highest slopes of Kiedrich―principally the steep, southwest-facing Wasseros vineyard that abuts the Gräfenberg vines. Another difference is that the fruit is harvested a little earlier, making a wine at least a degree lower in alcohol but no sweeter. The style is a lighter, more filigreed expression with a caressing lightness of touch that dances on the palate. It was raised exclusively in stainless steel.

“This prototypical Rheingau Kabinett is very vibrant, with a slew of white-peach, white-currant and spring-blossom aromas. Very good balance of restrained grape sweetness and crisp acidity. Very clean wet-stone finish.” 92 points, Stuart Pigott, jamessuckling

“The 2022 Riesling Rheingau Kabinett was harvested in the elevated Kiedricher Wasseros, whole-bunch pressed, fermented and made in stainless steel. White peach aromas are framed by citrus. The palate is tingling, bright and juicy, with peaches delineated by lemon. The 2022 is incredibly animating and mouth-watering. This pitches around 9g/L of acidity and 32g/L of sweetness. It is dangerously delicious.” 92 points, Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous

About Robert Weil

The vines on this steep, 4-hectare vineyard are now 30-50 years old. At 260 metres, it’s the highest of the three Weil hillside sites, yet thanks to its aspect and deeper, weathered-slate soils, it also produces the supplest and most forward of these wines.

The Weil team often uses the term ‘baroque’ when describing wines from Klosterberg, in reference to their overt exuberance. There are some similarities in character with the Kiedricher but there is much more intensity and drive on the finish. The first impression is of ripe nectarine and kernel spice with creamy generosity, but the finish is mineral, spicy, salty and racy. Outstanding, and one of the best examples of this wine we have shipped.

“Weil is widely seen as the jewel of Rheingau.” Jancis Robinson, Financial Times

“Robert Weil has been one of the icons of German wine culture for many years. Nothing but the finest Rieslings are produced. And as more than 100 years ago, the wines are distinguished in terms of their origins and their style.” Stephan Reinhardt, The Finest Wines of Germany

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
