Vi d’Altura, the equivalent of Grand Cru wine. There are two Vi d’Altura, or pinnacle wines, produced here: Les Tosses and Les Manyes. These are Terroir al Límit’s finest Priorats, as tasted through the prism of Cariñena (for Les Tosses) and Garnatxa (for Les Manyes). They are simply, two of the greatest red wines emanating from Spain today.

The two-hectare Les Tosses vineyard sits on a stony ridge of deep, black slate soils to the northeast of the village of Torroja at an incredible altitude of 650 metres. It is one of the very few ancient vineyards at this height. The 80-year-old bush vines here are mainly Cariñena with a tiny percentage of Garnatxa. They face east, like watchmen guarding the valley, and are planted at a density of 6,605 plants per hectare. These vines, along with those of Les Manyes, receive the most intricate attention from the TaL team, with each vine attended to as a most prized possession.

Dominik Huber only uses the best portion of this ‘Grand Cru’ site for this bottling (the rest goes into the village wine). The fermentation was 100% whole bunches with indigenous yeasts. Pressing occurred halfway through the fermentation and then half the wine went into concrete vessels for 20 months. Yes, it is not cheap, but it is one of Spain’s finest reds and is made in tiny quantities.

About Terroir al Límit

Dominik discovers his talent and passion for Mediterranean wine and culinary arts at a rather early stage: at the age of eighteen he visits an old Ligurian Trattoria; one year later he goes on a gourmet trip through Italy, alongside German top chef Karl Ederer, that takes him to various first-class traditional restaurants.

At 27, he starts studying Economics and Marketing in London, Munich and Madrid. In 1996, while still at university, he completes his first internship at the Mas Martinet winery owned by the Perez family – situated in the Priorat, one of the two oldest wine growing regions in Catalonia.
Enthused by his experiences and insights he takes on another internship at the Perez family after graduation in the year 2000 and gets employment as a labourer for a full year. In that time, Dominik encounters Eben Sadie, a highly regarded enologist from South Africa. They become friends and return to the Perez family in 2001 to help harvest the fruit.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
