This acclaimed Blanc de Blancs was produced in the traditional bottle fermentation method from our block C, estate grown chardonnay. Following secondary fermentation, the wine was aged on lees in bottle for a period of 40 months. Dosage was kept to a minimum at 6.5g/L to allow the wine to maintain its distinctive fresh, dry style.

Vintage 2019 presented enormously favourable conditions for growers in the Yarra Valley. Following a cold winter, bud-burst was a little later than normal. Early spring conditions were cool and very dry but in both November and December we experienced excellent rainfall. With replenished soil moisture we were well set up for both generous yields and the warm to hot months of January and February. Harvest days were perfect with
uninterrupted picking completed by mid-March.

About Coombe Farm

Coombe Farm combines the provenance and heritage of the Coombe the Melba Estate with cool climate Yarra Valley fruit, to create small batch wines of exquisite complexity.

Just 5km north of the Melba Estate, the 120-acre Coombe Farm vineyard is one of the oldest in the valley, and is still owned and operated by Melba’s descendants, the Vestey family. Having supplied grapes to some of Australia’s most recognised producers, an increasing portion of fruit is now being grown and selected specifically for the Coombe Farm brand.

While Coombe Yarra Valley is the home of the iconic soprano Dame Nellie Melba, the Estate Grown, boutique wines deserve equal recognition for their style, elegance and award-winning quality.

Coombe Cottage, the Australian home of famous Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, is located ‘behind the hedge’ at the gateway to the Yarra Valley at Coldstream.

Melba purchased the sixty-acre dairy farm in 1909, renaming the property Coombe Cottage after a house she had rented in England while she was performing at Covent Garden.

Coombe Cottage is still the private residence of Melba’s family and was the home of Melba’s grandaughter Pamela Lady Vestey until she died in 2011.
