Lifted and complex aromas of stone fruit and blackcurrant with layers of smoky oak and sweet spices.

Deep opaque with purple hue. Lifted and complex aromas of stone fruit and blackcurrant with layers of smoky oak and sweet spices. The fruit driven palate is medium weight, displaying great balance and lively fruit characters while still soft and generous. The palate finishes harmoniously with spicy dark chocolate berry flavours supported by long lingering tannins.

A nickname that has stuck since his early days at Australia’s original wine finishing school, Roseworthy College, ‘The Dirtman’ is indeed, Rob Gibson. The connection to dirt runs deep with Rob, who along with formalised training in both viticulture and winemaking, also is a geologist.

Our Dirtman Shiraz is a blend of both Eden Valley and Barossa floor fruit. The two regions are distinctly different in climate and dirt. Bringing them together allows us to craft a wine that celebrates classic Barossa Shiraz generosity and plushness, with a backbone of finesse for aging.

Matured in new and matured American and French oak, lifted aromas of stone fruit and blackcurrant prevail, overlaid with nuances of smoky oak and sweet spices.

About Gibson Wines

Gibson Wines was established in 1996 and draws on over 45 years of experience of its founder; viticulturist, geologist and winemaker, Rob Gibson.

Surrounding an 1850s Blacksmith’s cottage, Gibson’s home property in Light Pass – Northern Barossa – features a 7 – acre patch of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These vines are planted under the Gibson-Schulz trellis system, a unique method co-invented by Rob. The vines are alternately planted on a low and high cordon wire, the latter reaching nearly two metres in height.

Alongside these estate vineyards, relationships forged by Rob over four decades with multi-generational Barossa grape growing families, provides Gibson with enviable access to some of the region’s most precious fruit. Crossing all compass points of the region, Gibson’s grower relationships are key. Not only in providing a multitude of complexity in the end wines, but as a means of supporting a sustainable, integrated wine growing community.
