The owl connects to our property, where we have regular Tawny Frogmouth visitors, especially in and around our G and H Shiraz blocksThe upside-down house symbolises the fact that this is our entry level, ‘house’ Shiraz, but flipped on its head. Lighter, fresher and a drink now style that is an attempt at writing a new chapter in the Barossa Shiraz history book

Predominately grown here on our Estate vineyards using organic and biodynamic practices, this fruit comes from our younger vines, which were planted in 1997, and grow on loamy soils with broken quartz and ironstone scattered throughout.

Partial whole bunch & fermented in both small & medium sized open fermenters using wild yeast. A combination of hand plunging and pump overs allowed for gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. After 10 days on skins the wine was pressed and put to old French oak Botti for 12 months. The wine was blended and bottled with no fining.

Vibrant purple colour, this wine has loads of blueberry and black olive character on the nose. The whole bunch component gives a dried herb character to the wine and adds freshness to the palate. It is particularly generous in red and dark fruit thanks to the the Indian summer in 2021, making it a great drink on its own, but can also pair well with red meat dishes.

About Whistler Wines

Grape growing has been part of the Pfeiffer family way of life for four generations, beginning with Albert Heinrich Pfeiffer, who owned a vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. Albert would spend many hours in the vines with his son Hubert, working the vineyard in bare feet with his faithful Clydesdale, Bloss, before harvesting the grapes and selling them to local producers.

In 2000, Whistler Wines gained recognition after winning multiple awards including “Best White Wine in Show” for the 2000 Estate Semillon at the Barossa Wine Show and “World’s Top 10 Shiraz” for the 2006 Estate Shiraz from Winestate Awards in 2009.

In 2020, Whistler Wines was named “Best Small Cellar Door” in the Barossa Valley by GT Wine Magazine. Martin & Sally retire as son Sam Pfeiffer takes on the business.
